Buick is one of the oldest active automakers in North America, and it offers an interesting and exciting history. The brand was founded in 1899 as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company; it was incorporated into the Buck Motor Company in 1903 and would go on to become the premium brand that it is known as today, providing drivers with luxury models that are reliable and affordable. The very first Buick, the Model B, was introduced to the market in 1904, and the brand has never looked back. Modern Buick models continue to be a staple of the American auto market and remain a popular choice for drivers from all backgrounds. The history of the Buick brand is an interesting saga, and if you are looking for a used Buick in Atlanta, you need to work with us because we know there is a reason that Buick remains one of America’s favorite brands.

A Brief History of the Buick Brand

The very beginnings of the Buick brand proved to be tumultuous at best, having barely survived a near bankruptcy in 1904. But the company would recover and become a major innovator in the automotive industry. It all started with the introduction of the very first overhead valve engine, which increased combustion efficiency and enabled higher compression ratios, thus leading to greater power output.

The closed-body car was another first introduced by Buick, beating out competitor Ford by four years. Two additional achievements were presented by Buick in 1931; the synchromesh transmission and the straight-8 engine with overhead valve design. In 1939, Buick introduced a few features we take for granted today. A shift lever and turn signals mounted on the steering column were introduced and caught on very quickly. By this time, Buick was becoming so popular that it was a favorite of the British royal family.

During the first half of the 20th century, car styles changed quickly and dramatically, and Buick was at the forefront of this phenomenon. Buick would offer several features that helped set them apart from the competition. In addition, these unique and compelling features made Buick models stand out from the crowd. You still see many of the styling changes today in modern models. The Waterfall grille, which has been a Buick trademark for decades, is one such style feature. The iconic Trishield logo that appears prominently on the front of every Buick model was conceived during this time period, as was the curved trim line that runs the length of the vehicle.

The decades spanning the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s served as a sort of renaissance for the Buick brand. It was during this time frame when we would see Buick boasting about their Buick Special achieving speeds of up to 85 miles per hour. 1953 saw the release of the Buick Roadmaster Skylark convertible with a slick new V8 under the hood; it would mark a shift in how Buick presented their model lineup. We would now see Buick producing convertibles as well as performance-oriented models with super sleek designs and sharp looks.

As we entered the decade of the 1970s, Buick would once again focus its attention on luxury models with suave interiors with lots of room. The Park Avenue was a prime example of Buick luxury; the range of options summoned a whole new generation of Buick enthusiasts. And it wasn’t just the Park Avenue that garnered a lot of attention and love; all Buick models offered a wide range of luxury features and options that drew incredible interest.

We would see further efforts in design and ingenuity with the Buick brand in the 1980s. It all started in 1981 with the first Riviera convertible; it would be the first ragtop model produced since the mid-70s. Given the opportunity, Buick never blinked at creating a model with exceptional power. The 1987 GNX was a fine example; this model is essentially a beefed-up Grand National with superior performance; it would top out at 124 miles per hour. Not only was it a very powerful model, but it also boasted the luxury and style of the Buick brand.

While the nation’s people were introduced to grunge music, Friends, and the internet in the 1990s, Buick was busy bettering their already popular models. The Park Avenue entered the market in 1991 with a new 3.8-liter V6, dual-zone climate controls, and a four-speed electronically-controlled transmission. The Roadmaster returned in 1992 with a fuel-injected V8.

With the new millennia, Buick continues to make great strides in innovation as it continues to set the bar very high. Modern Buick models offer entry-level luxury models at affordable prices. From its very humble beginnings, the Buick brand has contributed much to the industry. Buick models remain as popular as ever as they continue to push the boundaries of style, performance, and quality.

Why Has Buick Remained a Popular Brand?

While there are several luxury brands on the market, one stands out from the rest. One of the reasons why Buick stands out from the luxury crowd is that they produce luxury models that people can actually afford. While many of you would love to cruise the town in a Mercedes Benz or a Range Rover, not all of you can afford such an investment. But, on the other hand, most of you could walk into a Buick dealership and drive off in a new Buick Enclave or a popular Buick Envision.

Another reason Buick remains such a popular brand is due to its style. It is evident when you take a look at a Buick that there was some serious investment in discovering a premium design. Buick models are certainly eye-catching inside and out, and everybody loves a cutting-edge design that defines the vehicle they drive.

When you roll up to your house at the end of the workday, you feel great because you just enjoyed a wonderful experience. It is the experience of being behind the wheel of a sophisticated vehicle. Buicks are not just sophisticated in their style but also in the way they drive. Driving a luxury model like a Buick should leave you a bit breathless; it’s akin to a zen experience that leaves you mentally fulfilled.

When you slide behind the wheel of a Buick, you can see and feel the quality materials. Buick goes out of its way to ensure the highest quality materials are used in each of its models. There is nothing more disappointing than driving a luxury model with cheap plastic knobs and faux leather materials. Get a Buick and enjoy the finer things in life.
