Compact SUVs need to strike a fine balance in terms of powertrain performance. They need to be economic without being anemic; they must be responsive and spritely but also comfortable and smooth. Buick is proud to deliver on all fronts.
The 2021 Envision is offered with a single-engine across all trims––a turbocharged 2.0L inline 4-cylinder delivering 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. With that kind of power, you’ll never have to question your ability to take the Envision anywhere––it will conquer any mountain highway with ease, even loaded up with four friends/family members.
The 2.0L engine is updated for 2021, but its predecessor on the 2020 Envision achieves 0-60 mph in under 7 seconds. That’s faster than much of its American competition in the luxury SUV market, so you won’t be wanting for acceleration. Getting up to speed and merging with traffic will never be a challenge for the peppy Envision.
Acceleration is great, but it takes more than a strong engine to perfect the driving experience. The 2021 Envision employs a nine-speed automatic transmission to provide a near-seamless shifting experience, gliding from one gear to the next without the harsh jolting that often results with a five or six-speed gearbox. The number of gears allows the computer to maintain near-optimal engine output under all conditions without the uniform droning of a continuously variable transmission as well, preserving the liveliness of a fixed-gear transmission.
The 2020 Envision achieves a more than respectable 24 MPG city / 41 MPG highway, competitive with others in its class; the updated engine in the 2021 model is expected to have similar results. With a 17-gallon fuel tank, your pit stops can be few and far between.
Buick knows that no matter what you do in your Envision, safety is paramount. That’s why the 2021 Envision comes with OnStar and the Buick Driver Confidence suite on all trim levels, using state-of-the-art technology to provide peace of mind all the time.
All trim levels come equipped with active collision-avoidance technology, such as forward pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, and automatic emergency braking that may react faster than any human driver could. Lane keep assist and lane departure warnings help to keep the Envision between the lines on the road. Rear park assist and an HD rear vision camera help to keep it between the lines when parking. On all models, the Teen Driver feature provides parental controls for their student drivers, preventing safety features from being disabled, limiting certain features, and monitoring driving habits so they can be confident that their precious cargo is safe.
At higher trim levels, even more systems become available. All but the base model include Rear Cross Traffic Alert to detect incoming pedestrians and objects which might be out of sight of the driver. The Avenir trim includes HD surround vision, giving the driver a top-down view of what’s around the vehicle, and puts the rearview camera view onto the rearview mirror for maximum visibility. Available with Avenir and Essence trim, the Technology Package II adds adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic braking, articulating headlamps, and even a rear camera washer to ensure that whatever the weather, you’ll always have a line of sight on whatever comes your way.
Finally, no discussion about safety on a GM vehicle is complete without mentioning OnStar. Basic OnStar features are standard on all models, including 3 month of complimentary safety and security coverage to protect you from theft, call for help in an emergency, or to just give you directions when you don’t know the way.
It doesn’t matter how good a car looks from the outside if it isn’t a pleasure to be in on the inside. The 2021 Buick Envision strives to be the car you won’t want to climb out of by integrating exquisite styling, brand new technology, and the best luxuries engineering can fit inside.
For over 100 years, Buick has made a name for itself by producing beautiful, timeless designs, and they’re not stopping now. The sculpted lines of the exterior pair wonderfully with the smooth, elegant flow of the dashboard, the contours of which reach around the driver and front passenger onto the doors and around the door handles. A slightly angled center console makes features a little easier to see from the driver’s side, anchored by an 8” infotainment system in dead center. The interior colors––primarily either beige or ebony with ebony highlights––provide highly sophisticated options for all tastes, whether the seats are cloth (Base, Preferred) or leather (Essence, Avenir).
The centerpiece of the interior technology showcased in the Envision has to be the infotainment system. The screen is 8” standard, but a 10” version is available on all but the base trim (standard on the Essence and Avenir), allowing easy operation and visibility. 4G LTE Wifi capability, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensure seamless connectivity for all passengers through this system. A top-of-the-line Bose speaker system delivers the finest quality sound from 6 to as many as nine speakers (Avenir––standard, Essence––available).
The Avenir trim elevates the technology even further. A head-up display (HUD) is standard (available on Essence), which projects your speed and other important information onto a transparent panel above the steering wheel, keeping your eyes on the road. The center console has a wireless charging pad for compatible devices, so you won’t have to worry about forgetting your chargers anymore.
When it comes to luxury vehicles, comfort is king. The absence of basic amenities can make any excursion unbearable, while the right set of luxuries can help any driver sustain through the longest of road trips. The greatest contribution to this is the seating. The front bucket seats are adjustable 6-ways. With the Preferred trim, the driver gets an 8-way power adjustable seat, and heated seats and a heated steering wheel are available. These features are standard on the Essence trim for both front seats. Finally, at the Avenir trim level, heating is added to the rear outboard passenger seats, ventilation is added to the front seats, and the driver seat also receives massage control.
While you sit in your massage chair driver seat, you’ll look up and see nature all around you as an enormous powered moonroof is available on both Essence and Avenir trim. Active noise cancellation and Buick’s unique QuietTuning process work together to reduce, block, and absorb exterior noises and vibrations, keeping the interior delightfully quiet even at highway speeds or stuck in traffic around construction sites.
Interior air quality monitoring and ionization systems ensure that you always have clean, fresh air inside, and dual-zone climate control allows you and your front passenger to set the temperature just right.
