Some pickups are expressly designed to surpass those expectations and push the limits within the segment, and the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is one such pickup. All-new technology, advanced features, and unquestionable luxury highlight the updates for the 2022 model year. The 2022 Sierra 1500 is available in eight different trim formats for the model year, including the base Pro, the SLE, the Elevation, the SLT, the off-road AT4, the AT4X, the luxury Denali, and the premium-luxury trim known as the Denali Ultimate. The 2022 F-150 is available in seven trims, including the base XL, the XLT, the Lariat, the Tremor, the King Ranch, the Platinum, and the Limited. Both trucks are also available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive configurations. The F-150 has five basic powertrain options: the 3.3-liter V6, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, the 5.0-liter V8, and the 3.5-liter PowerBoost Hybrid V6. All of the engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and have AdvanceTrac with Curve Control technology at their core, which utilizes patented Roll Stability Control systems to ensure a steady and stable ride.
The GMC Sierra 1500 has four powertrain options in the form of the 2.7-liter high-output turbocharged inline 4-cylinder, the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, the more powerful 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, and the 3.0-liter Duramax turbocharged inline 6-cylinder diesel engine. Much like the F-150, the Sierra 1500 has all but the inline 4-cylinder paired up with a 10-speed automatic transmission that features Driver Shift Control and the ability to engage Tow/Haul mode for better stability and cooling while trailering. The 4-cylinder is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Much like the F-150, the Sierra 1500 also has a stability and traction control system in the form of the tried and trusted Stabilitrak system.
Both full-size trucks also come with a two-speed transfer case for their four-wheel drive configurations, along with optional active damping for the suspension. The Sierra 1500's Denali comes standard with adaptive ride control, utilizing electronic sensors to monitor the conditions of each wheel and dynamically adjust the damping to keep the ride as smooth as possible. The F-150 has a similar system known as CCD, Continuously Controlled Damping, which automatically monitors vehicle speed, drive mode, and road conditions to change the suspension stiffness in real-time.
In the performance category of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vs 2022 Ford F-150, the Sierra 1500 manages to eke out a win in the fuel economy department. The Duramax turbo-diesel isn't just great for towing, but also manages an impressive fuel-economy rating of up to 23 miles per gallon in the city and up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The GMC Sierra 1500 and Ford F-150 come in multiple cab configurations, including Crew Cabs designed to seat up to six passengers in total. The F-150 comes in the Standard Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew options, while the Sierra 1500 is available in Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab. Unlike the F-150's SuperCab, the GMC Sierra 1500's Double Cab is still a four-door design. Both trucks are also available with multiple bed options, including short, standard, and long beds.
The Sierra 1500 manages to take another lead over the F-150 in the bed size department, as all of its beds are longer than the corresponding F-150 options. This includes a 62.9-cubic feet short bed for the Sierra, compared to the 52.8 cubic feet available in the short bed for the F-150. The Sierra's standard bed clocks in at 71.7 cubic feet, while the F-150's standard bed is 62.3 cubic feet. And finally, the Sierra has a best-in-class 89.1-cubic foot long bed, while the F-150 sports a long bed that is only 77.4-cubic feet. So you can easily see how the Sierra offers more space, more room, and more volume for payload and cargo.
The Sierra doesn't just win out in the space department. Design-wise, comparing the 2022 Sierra 1500 vs 2022 F-150 shows a stark contrast in the Sierra's outward appearance and interior features. The outside of the Sierra carries a very bold and pronounced stance, with an imposing grille and distinct chrome trimming on the Denali and Denali Ultimate. Having great performance and luxury interior features are always nicely complimented with state-of-the-art comfort and infotainment technology. The battle between the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vs 2022 Ford F-150 sees the tech aspects headlined with very large and accommodating infotainment suites. The F-150 comes with an available 12-inch capacitive touchscreen powered by the SYNC 4 technology, featuring FordPass Connect with 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity and integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where the Sierra takes the edge is with the Teen Driver mode, which allows parents to set guidelines and restrictions for the Sierra, ensuring that teens follow safety guidelines every time they step foot inside the truck. The Sierra 1500 also comes with the GMC Infotainment System, which has a touchscreen measuring up to 13.4-inches. Not only does the Sierra feature Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio, but you also have access to OnStar roadside assistance support and the new Google Built-In software suite, which you simply do not get with the F-150.
While the F-150 also offers a digital driver information display, the Sierra 1500 features a robust 12.3-inch driver information display and a separate 15-inch heads-up display. In total, the Sierra 1500 boasts more than 40 inches of high-definition digital display real estate, far surpassing what's available on the F-150’s highest trim. Finally, the Sierra 1500 matches the F-150's BlueCruise with GMC's own patented Super Cruise hands-free driving suite, which allows drivers and passengers to enjoy up to 200,000 miles of hands-free driving across North America. This gives the Sierra quite the edge over the F-150 when it comes to the overall tech offerings.
