The next time you pass by a Buick dealership in Duluth, GA, pay close attention to what’s on the lot. You’ll likely see a sharp, modern-styled SUV that you may not recognize – and that model is the 2022 Buick Enclave. Buick is reaching new territory with its latest Enclave, most evidently with its newfound aesthetic appeal. While that’s exciting on its own, the new Enclave comes with better tech and safety features as well, scoring a well-rounded upgrade.

In order to truly appreciate the Enclave new modifications, it’s important to know a bit more about the model’s history. This model has come a long way since its debut. The Enclave is Buick’s largest model, and as expected, it falls in line with Buick’s promise to be affordable yet luxurious. Originally, the Buick Enclave came with that classic, rounded 2000s SUV exterior styling, but the 2022 update has sharpened its look. Even the Enclave’s low-tier trims included On-Star, remote keyless entry, satellite radio, and other appealing features that were considered luxurious in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Space was one of the Enclave’s main perks, as drivers rave over its vast cargo space (the earliest 2008 model could store up to 118 cubic feet of cargo). It was also a three-row model, meaning it could carry up to 7 people at once. This model quickly became known as being fancy, family-friendly, and affordable. The same is true of the Enclave today, with one exception – the Enclave’s specs are now even better.

All About the Enclave’s Exterior Upgrades

Let’s start with that most important topic, which is the Enclave’s exterior. The first-generation Enclave lasted for almost an entire decade (2008 – 2017), and while it underwent some minor redesigns throughout this period, its general aesthetic appeal remained the same. The second generation began in 2018 when Buick began slipping away from the rounded look and gave the Enclave a slimmer front end and a narrower roof. Thanks to this new exterior appeal, the Enclave quickly went from “that’s a mom car” to “German luxury vehicle competitor.”

While this upgrade opened new doors for the Buick Enclave, the 2022 model’s new appeal makes it fit the “luxury vehicle” label more than ever before. The 2022 Enclave’s front end has slimmed down even further, but its grille is now wider, giving it a much more fleshed-out look. In addition to this, it comes with a much more detailed front fascia and narrower headlights. You can still recognize the Enclave, but if you were to compare it to a 2008 model, its exterior design has greatly improved.

Interior Features and Technologies

Since it’s a luxury model, you can expect the Enclave’s interior to be elite. But unlike many other luxury vehicles, the model manages to offer luxurious interior features without pushing past the $60,000 mark. The Enclave includes leather, heated and ventilated seating, tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system. When you upgrade to the high-end Avenir trim, you’ll get an even fancier interior. The Avenir has quilted, massaging seats, along with wood trim accents.

Furthermore, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the Enclave. These features are available on older models as well, but the new Enclave offers wireless connections rather than classic cord-only connectivity. There’s also an option for satellite radio and a built-in Spotify app creating plenty of music variety, so you’ll never get bored with your tunes. It’s safe to say that the 2022 Enclave is a tech-friendly mode. On top of all these perks, you can even throw in a Wi-Fi hotspot if needed!

Now for the most important interior feature – cargo space! While the original Enclave’s cargo space score was impressive, the 2022 model takes it even further, offering up to 97.6 cubic feet of cargo space. Thanks to a power-folding split third row and 60/40 split seating, it’s easy to balance your cargo-to-passenger ratio. Say goodbye to leaving your third favorite golf club set at home so all the kids can still fit!

Standard Safety Features?

Safety features have been available on the Enclave since safety tech first grew in popularity, but before, you had to pay extra for them. They were either available only on higher, more expensive trims, or you had to add them on individually for an extra fee. Now, the 2022 Enclave offers Buick’s security suite standard, even when you choose the base-level model. The only thing that is still optional is Adaptive Cruise Control. When you get a Buick, you’ll get these nine different safety technologies standard:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Rear Park Assist
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • IntelliBeam Auto High Beams

Now that these features are standard, you really get your money’s worth. While you cannot rely on these features to replace your attentiveness, they are incredibly helpful in accident prevention. For example, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert both give you views of areas you wouldn’t normally see. Whether you’re backing out of a parking space or you’re about to switch lanes, these notification systems can catch what you can’t.

In addition to standard features, you can add on some handy technologies to aid you further. First off, you can add High Definition Surround Vision, which gives you a complete overview of your Enclave and all that surrounds it. Further, just like the old Enclaves, you can opt for On-Star services. These include everything from an Automatic Crash Response feature, Roadside Assistance, and Emergency Services. Whether you run out of fuel, bust a tire, or have a non-automotive-related emergency, the Enclave’s On-Star services can help bring you peace of mind on the road.

Should I Get the 2021 Enclave or the 2022 Enclave?

Since 2021 models are still being sold new, why exactly should you consider the 2022 Enclave instead? The truth is that you don’t have to. Both models are great options, offering many of the same perks and features. That said, the new Enclave offers both a new style and a better bargain when it comes to safety. On the other hand, you may love the look of the old Enclave, as well as the lower price tag.

Just remember that both the new model and the older model can tow up to 5,000 pounds, have the same fuel economy, and offer the same cargo dimensions.
