  Fresh off a redesign, the 2022 Buick Envision shines again this year, offering a plethora of standard luxury features and refined styling usually reserved for more expensive luxury SUVs. In fact, the Envision is so much fancier than others in its price range, the automotive review site Car and Driver believes it occupies a “gray area between classes.” Luxury and value-oriented pricing are normally mutually exclusive, but on the Envision, they’re not.

  Here’s the perfect tagline for this 2022 Envision: value meets luxury. It’s a theme that’s prevalent across the entire trim range, including the base model. That’s something unique to the Envision because compact crossovers tend to favor affordability. As a result, many manufacturers leave out more desirable comfort and luxury features or reserve them only for higher-priced trims.

  Buick is a premium brand first and foremost, and that positioning isn’t diluted in its smaller crossover models. The 2022 Envision doesn’t skimp on safety and performance either, with a standard 228 horsepower turbocharged engine and available all-wheel drive for confident inclement weather driving. There’s also a wide swath of standard driver-assist systems for added peace of mind.

  What’s not to love about the 2022 Buick Envision? If you’re on the hunt for a compact crossover, it deserves a spot at the top of the list.

  Compact crossover shoppers sometimes run into a challenge early on, which is an absence of dynamic styling. This category tends to favor more standardized exterior design, considering utility and broad appeal over individuality. It’s a conservative approach that leaves many buyers wanting. Luckily, Buick infused the Envision with bold lines and curves that differentiate it from the pack.

  A Stylish Exterior

  Referred to as “sculpted” by more than one automotive review site, the 2022 Envision embodies a more modern look without venturing too far from necessary utility and, of course, understated luxury. Available special appearance packages like the Sport Touring Package enhance its contours with special grille inserts and surround, black roof rails, arched wheel moldings, and glossy exterior mirror caps.

  We love that the Envision includes standard LED headlights and taillights across the entire trim range, as well as heated power outside mirrors. The base Preferred and mid-range Essence trims offer standard 18-inch wheels, and the Avenir is outfitted with 20-inch pearl nickel finished aluminum wheels. Those same 20-inch wheels are available as an option on the lower Envision trims.

  A Comfortable Interior

  On the inside, the 2022 Envision is focused squarely on occupant comfort and luxury. The top-of-the-line Avenir trim features a gigantic 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with built-in navigation placed prominently on the dash for easy reach by the driver. An HD Surround Vision system is also standard, as well as heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Ventilated seats with a driver’s massage feature are also standard on the Avenir, along with a head-up display and an upgraded Bose premium stereo system with a built-in amplifier and HD quality.

  Both the Essence and Avenir trims offer an available panoramic moonroof for open-air driving enjoyment, and the Avenir puts a spin on the traditional rearview mirror with an available rear camera mirror, which embeds a backup camera into the rearview mirror. Envision Avenir passengers will love the standard heated rear outboard seats. Even the console is reimagined, with a dual-winged cover that offers separate armrests and sectioned access, eliminating the need to contort your body to allow room for a full-size console lid to open.

  For 2022, Buick tweaked the Envision’s standard and available safety systems with the goal of providing a more extensive list of features across the entire lineup. All Envisions receive a standard High Definition backup camera, and the Avenir comes equipped with a standard HD Surround Vision camera. The Surround Vision camera displays a bird’s eye view of the vehicle and the area surrounding it, which is especially helpful to navigate in and out of tight spaces.

  Buick Driver Confidence is standard on all Envision trims and includes a variety of features that work together with the aid of onboard cameras and sensors to promote driver awareness and help mitigate road hazards and collisions.

The following distance indicator is both convenient and safe, letting drivers dial in their preferred distance from the vehicle ahead and helping them maintain it by constantly scanning traffic conditions and providing a warning if they get too close.

  Designed for Safety

  The Envision Avenir is offered with the option of Continuous Damping Control, a suspension technology that utilizes sensors and a central control unit to detect any changes to body roll and pitch and adjust damping to deliver a more comfortable ride, better handling, and more overall stability, especially when cornering and accelerating. Because the system fosters better tire-to-road contact, the braking distance is also shortened.

  The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2022 Envision (both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models) a perfect 5-star overall safety rating, no doubt aided by the available Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking. What does it mean when automatic braking is enhanced? The system works in tandem with the Forward Collision Alert to assist with hard braking, even at highway speeds.

• Technology

  

  Buick equips the 2022 Envision with state-of-the-art infotainment features, including a massive 10.2-inch touchscreen that’s standard on the Avenir and available as part of a Technology Package on the Essence and Preferred trims. Opting for that package – officially called Technology Package – also outfits the Essence and Preferred with front and rear park assist, an HD Surround Vision camera, an upgraded Bose audio system, a head-up display, and a universal home remote.

  While the Envision Avenir is loaded out of the box, there is one available package option: the Technology Package II. This option features several advanced driver-assist systems, like Adaptive Cruise Control, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, and Parking Assist, as well as the rear camera mirror with a built-in washer on the exterior camera. The package also includes Continuous Damping Control.

  Real-Time Connectivity

  Connectivity is spotlighted on the Envision, as it is on all Buick models, with a standard built-in 4G LTE WiFi HotSpot that buyers can activate with a data subscription. The infotainment system wirelessly connects to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and can recognize Amazon Alexa to integrate with smart home devices and voice activation technology. Standard active noise cancellation optimizes cabin sound quality and minimizes road noise.

  As a Buick owner, you’ll have access to the myBuick app, an intelligent smartphone interface that acts as a remote key.
