GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 shares many cues with the Chevy Silverado 1500, as both are built on the same rugged platform. The GMC Sierra was first released as a stand-alone model back in 1988, although the Sierra name first appeared much earlier as a trim of the C/K series trucks. Since then, the GMC Sierra 1500 has seen numerous generations, with the fifth generation arriving for the 2019 model year. Each generational leap sees many improvements for the Sierra 1500.

No matter the generation, a used GMC Sierra 1500 is a capable pickup truck that every GMC owner has heard about and or has driven in the past. While not up to par in regards to raw performance against its larger sibling––the Sierra HD––it performs admirably well, which has been a staple of the Sierra 1500 since its inception. Harnessing more power than the Canyon yet costing less than the Sierra HD, the Sierra 1500 can tow over 13,000 lbs. This is all thanks to the wide selection of powerful engines, including large V8s and even diesel, that has accompanied the Sierra 1500 for many years.

GMC Sierra HD

Sitting above the Sierra 1500 on GMC's model list is the Sierra HD line, which includes both the Sierra 2500 HD and the Sierra 3500 HD. The difference between pre-owned GMC Sierra HD trucks and the Sierra 1500 is night and day, and this is all thanks to a much greater towing capacity. The Sierra HD line was released within the same timeframe as the regular Sierra 1500. But even from the start, the Sierra HD was targeted at the type of driver who needs a truck with pure grunt––anything less wouldn't suffice. Expectedly, the Sierra 2500 HD outperforms the Sierra 1500, and the Sierra 3500 HD outperforms both.

An example of how vastly the performance differs between the three trucks, the 2020 models are a good indication. For example, the 2020 Sierra 1500 is available with a plethora of engines ranging from a turbocharged I-4 to a 6.2L V8, but the 2020 Sierra HD models come with a standard 6.6L V8 engine. On top of the standard gasoline-powered engine, there is a V8 Duramax turbo-diesel option. With the 2020 Sierra 2500 HD, the maximum towing capacity is 18,500 lbs, and the 2020 Sierra 3500 HD gets an incomparable 35,500 lbs.

GMC Canyon

The Canyon is the sibling to the Chevy Colorado, having been released alongside one another. The Canyon has the benefit of being GMC's most affordable pickup truck, and even with these savings, drivers can still expect impressive performance, whether you're a hobbyist or the occasional handyman. The Canyon has been around for two decades, and its mark on GMC's lineup remains to this day, with the Canyon never missing a beat except for a short gap in production for 2013 and 2014. Canyon models are still being actively developed, and the used market only gets bigger.

For the low barrier of entry that is the Canyon, drivers can still expect a host of impressive features, even as far back as 2011, which saw the Canyon receive Bluetooth connectivity––something that has seemingly only recently become standard fare. Older used GMC Canyon models, such as the 2011 variant, offered up an available V8 engine, but down the line, the need for the V8 was mitigated by a similarly performant 3.6L V6 engine. A turbo-diesel I-4 engine would join the lineup in 2016, bringing immense torque and fuel efficiency to the mix.

GMC Acadia

The GMC Acadia has been a part of the lineup since the mid-2000s and stems from a time when SUVs were still in their explosive growth of mainstream popularity. Generational leaps for the Acadia are anything but common, as the first generation Acadia wouldn't be followed up by the second generation until a decade later. What a new or pre-owned GMC Acadia excels at best is a mixture of its palpable performance combined with a spacious interior, bringing comfort to its occupants and plenty of room to store cargo. Models made following the launch of the second-generation Acadia in 2017 saw a host of changes from powertrains to cargo space and technology.

The models that preceded the generational leap in 2017 are only available with a 3.6L V6 engine, which can produce up to 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. Since these models are larger than the second-generation SUVs, they allow for a far greater amount of space when both back rows are folded down. With both rows folded down, first-generation Acadia's can offer around 116 cu.ft. of cargo space. Later models, starting with the 2017 Acadia, come standard with a 2.5L I-4 engine but are also available with either a turbocharged I-4 or a 3.6L V6. These models, while midsize, are still three-row SUVs, and with both back rows folded down, you can expect 79 cu.ft. of space.

GMC Yukon

With a used GMC Yukon, you can expect three things: outstanding performance, a vast interior, and a host of impressive technology. Sharing much of its DNA with its sibling, the Chevy Tahoe, the Yukon preceded it by several years, but nowadays, both vehicles are similar in many regards. The Yukon is also accompanied by its much larger direct sibling––the Yukon XL. With the Yukon XL, performance is on par with the regular model, with the difference coming down to an immense increase in cargo space. For example, the 2020 Yukon has a maximum cargo capacity of 94.7 cu.ft. of space, and the Yukon XL increases this to 121.7 cu.ft. A year later, the Yukon would get an increase to 122.9 cu.ft., and the Yukon XL would then see a bump to a whopping 144.7 cu.ft. of space.

Numerous generations have come and gone for the Yukon, which is par for the course with a vehicle released in the early 1990s. What the Yukon has always delivered, it's delivered well, and that's a capable vehicle that fits the busy lifestyle of those who are more likely to drive with others in the car than by themselves. And the Yukon is ready for adventure thanks to a wide range of capability features, including a true four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, among other things.

GMC Terrain

The GMC Terrain may not have as long a tenure on the market as some of its siblings within GMC's lineup, but it certainly deserves its place with its excellent efficiency, cargo space, and "built with off-roading in mind" mentality that goes a long way for its price. The Terrain, like any decent off-roading vehicle, offers up an all-wheel drive option to accompany its capable powertrain choices.

The second-generation pre-owned GMC Terrain, which initially launched in 2018, offers great luxuries. But models released before that are still highly capable machines, and like the newer models, the Terrain Denali can give you exceptional luxury. For example, the 2017 Terrain can be fitted with a 3.6L V6 engine that gives 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque, but this was omitted from the lineup with the start of the second-generation Terrain. The 2021 and later models skipped optional engines entirely and come equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L I-4 engine standard.
